Yes. API keys are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM, keyed by the server's APP_KEY. They are never serialized to the frontend or logged. Only the encrypted form is stored in the database.

How accurate is the OCR?

Jokai runs a custom in-house OCR pipeline for text detection. It provides confidence scores per bubble, so you can filter low-quality detections and retry individual pages without re-running everything.

Free plan credits are a one-time grant — they don't refill monthly. Once they're used up, your account is locked until you upgrade to a paid plan; you can still view your projects and export finished work. Paid plans reset monthly, and if you downgrade with credits left, they're banked for 30 days and restored on your next upgrade. BYOK translations are always free (0 credits).

What happens when I run out of credits mid-month?

Processing simply stops — there is no overage billing and you can never go into debt beyond a small buffer for jobs already in flight. New pages, translations and inpainting are blocked until your next monthly reset. Your projects, chapters and finished exports stay fully accessible, and one-time credit packs can top you up immediately without changing your plan.

Which translation model should I pick, and what does a page really cost?

A full page (OCR + translation + inpaint) costs 3 credits with a basic model. Premium models consume more translation credits per page — up to 17 — so the same page can cost up to 19 credits. The comparison table shows the cost per page range for each plan, and the credit calculator estimates your monthly usage. If cost matters, basic and standard models deliver excellent translation quality for manga and light novels.

Can I get a refund?

Can my storage be deleted?

Accepted Answer

Only after a long warning window. If a paid plan or pack pass ends, your account becomes read-only above 1 GB but nothing is removed right away. You receive warning emails at 60, 30 and 7 days before a deadline six months later, and only then are the oldest pages purged down to the 1 GB free quota. Re-subscribing or buying any pack at any point cancels the purge and keeps everything.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. There's no lock-in. Cancel your subscription at any time from Settings. You keep access until the end of your billing period, and your projects remain intact.

Export chapters as ZIP, CBZ (comic archive), PDF, or PSD (Photoshop with editable text layers). Formats are tiered by plan: Free includes ZIP/CBZ, Starter adds PDF, and PSD is available from the Indie plan up. Resolution and image codecs also scale with your plan.
