What consumes credits, how BYOK makes translation free, and how renewals work.

Credits are the pipeline’s currency. Each plan includes a monthly grant; credit packs top it up when a big chapter lands mid-cycle.
What consumes credits

BYOK: bring your own key
With your own API key active (Settings → Translation), translation and OCR correction run on your provider at zero credits — only OCR and inpainting draw from your plan. For heavy series this is by far the cheapest way to run Jokai.
Balance & renewals
Your live balance is always visible in the dashboard and in Settings → Billing — and on every API response via the X-Jokai-Credits header. Paid plans reset monthly; unused monthly credits do not roll over. If you downgrade, credits above the new plan’s grant are banked for 30 days and restored when you subscribe again.
