Bring your own storage

Store pages, cleaned images and renders in your own S3-compatible bucket.

4 min read

By default your pages, cleaned images and renders live in Jokai’s managed storage. Bring your own S3-compatible bucket and everything a project stores lands in your bucket instead — you keep the objects, the access rules and the bill.

Connect a bucket

  1. 1Open Settings → Storage
  2. 2Enter your S3 endpoint, region, bucket name and access keys
  3. 3Test the connection — the credentials are verified before saving
  4. 4Enable it: new uploads and renders now write to your bucket

Any S3-compatible endpoint works: AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Minio, Wasabi. Objects are written under a dedicated byo/ prefix per project, so the bucket can hold other things safely.

Requirements

The credentials need read, write and delete permissions on the bucket (s3:GetObject, s3:PutObject, s3:DeleteObject). Server-side encryption can stay on — Jokai reads and writes through the S3 API. Public access is not required.

Fallback & disconnect

Disconnecting switches storage back to the platform bucket for new writes; objects already written to your bucket stay there — nothing is deleted from your side. Existing pages whose files live in your bucket keep working as long as the bucket stays connected.

If the bucket becomes unreachable, new uploads and renders for that project fail until access is restored — check the chapter status view for the exact error.
