Welcome to Jokai

What Jokai is, who it is for, and how the documentation is organized.

3 min read

Jokai is a translation studio for visual and literary content: manga, webtoons, comics and light novels. Upload your pages, and an automated pipeline detects the text, translates it into your target languages, cleans the artwork and re-typesets the result — then you polish everything in a full visual editor.

Who it is for

Scanlation teams that want the busywork automated, freelance translators who deliver typeset pages instead of text files, and publishers localizing series into several languages at once. If your work involves reading text inside images and putting other text back, Jokai is built for you.

What makes it different

The pipeline is chapter-aware: pages translate with rolling story context, so names, tone and references stay consistent instead of resetting at every bubble. Glossaries lock terminology across a whole series, and a translation memory reuses your manual corrections for free.

Everything ends in a real editor — canvas tools, typography, effects, inpainting, QA checks and live collaboration — and every page can be exported as server-rendered final images that match the editor pixel for pixel.

How these docs are organized

Start walks you through your first project — begin with the Quick start. Guides cover the workflows you will use every day, from the pipeline to exports. Setup configures the things that are yours: translation providers, storage, presets. Reference is the lookup material: API, webhooks, credits and the FAQ.

New here? The Quick start takes you from sign-up to a finished translated page in about fifteen minutes.
